Dear Jo at Where Women Create, Papaya ( well, you don't have submission packets and your customer service couldn't help me), Stampington, American Greetings, ReadyMade and all other companies that I have downloaded submission packets to and sent out in the last 2 years,
It's going to be a NEW year soon. In just about 2 weeks, exactly.
For years I have been trying to get one person from one of your magazines to look at my work and take me seriously, without anything more than some very sweet comments back from Jo ( Thank you Jo, your magazine is wonderfully inspirational and your comments made me push even harder to get a stable studio space just so i could be in your magazine...well, also because i need a stable studio space). I have a freshly re-printed STACK of submission packets here on my floor next to me. I want to fill them al out and send my Artist Packet and my new designs and be all excited and hopeful that one of you will notice my envelope and contact me! But without help...i.e. being unsolicited....nobody will even open my envelope or answer my e-mails.
I understand. I do. Why there are rules...and I am not saying that you will even like my work ( but I think you might)..however, without being too long-winded on my bloggy soap-box, here is my question to you:
How the H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks am I ever supposed to get anywhere?
I haven't the money to hire a rep, if I did have that money ...well that is just a different story all-together!
If I do not have a rep you will probably never see my work. Therefore I will never make the money to hire a rep.
So what I am putting out there into the vast web of the intra-net, and into the wind as i scream it out my window into the snow, is this...
Give a girl a chance!
I have followed all your rules...spent endless amounts of money I didn't have on getting things printed, stamped and delivered to you, endless minutes of my life on this laptop that is falling apart, trying to figure out how to reach someone! Made uncomfortable phone calls!
You may hate what I have to offer, or you may like it but it "just doesn't fit"...I understand! But this Christmas, this New Year of 2011, my wish is that at least one of you will take a look and either love my designs or send me hate-mail.
Any attention is good attention :)
Warm Holiday Wishes,
Hollie Chantiles
